from what I’ve seen, there are exactly Three Jobs hiring at any given time. they are:
- senior logistics strategist at Hewlett Packard. $140,000 / year. requirements: three separate MBAs, fifteen years of business experience, no “ethnic” grandparents, unearned sense of confidence
- “customer success ambassador” at Glurp. $70,000 / year, give or take, since 90% of your pay is based on commission. requirements: associate’s degree, no experience, has never heard the phrase “pyramid scheme,” no sense of shame
- part-time server at Le Bon Mot. $15-$16/hr depending on level of experience. must work weekends, overnight shifts, holidays, while asleep. requirements: you will let customers spit on you.
I feel like I make some variant on this post once every two weeks, which should tell you how well the job hunt’s going.

the healing tour
pete’s heaven iowa speech / patrick seeing the crowd light up after playing spotlight (oh nostalgia) / playing favorite record as a surprise song / pete smiling and singing along to the kintsugi kid (ten years) / patrick covering leonard cohen’s hallelujah / pete’s speech about found family in l.a. / patrick forgetting the lyrics to 27 and the audience screaming them instead / patrick smiling during saturday / patrick hugging joe on his first night back / playing the kids aren’t alright as a surprise song
Sounds so familiar…

actually you know what that’s exactly it i would rather someone add 5 parantheticals after every sentence than use tone indicators it’s 1. accomplishing SO much more in terms of clarity 2. extremely funny to look at depending on how they’re used
observe:
“is this real? /gen” — i thought /gen meant “general” for ages. i would not be able to understand this on first sight a few years ago and is thus ineffective
“is this real? (genuine question)” — i fully understand this without issue
“is this real? (genuine question) (can’t tell) (very realistic) (looks real) (scary) (photoshop?)” — is not only incredibly clear it’s also very funny to read all of these thoughts stapled together while also in their own parentheses. it’s also the most useful because now i can actually address all parts of what they are asking me with as much specificity as BOTH of us need
parentheses my beloved (they are for bonus thoughts) (and questions) ( and sidetracks) (like a 2nd conversation on top of the first)

Hey yeah in the midst of all the hype and the strikes, can we PLEASE fucking talk about this
“Forgot”
So I looked into this and the source appears to be a Far Out Magazine article which claims Nolan has been accused of omitting VFX artists’ names from the credits of the movie. However, their only source for that claim is a tweet by Hugo Guerra which notes that it’s an unusually small team and appears to only have been compositing work. He does say in a follow-up tweet he hopes everyone was credited for their work but doesn’t make any accusations so as far as I can tell this has actually just been made up by Far Out Magazine.
Why would they do that? I can only speculate but Christopher Nolan has been outspoken in his support for the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes and trade magazines tend to be aligned with AMPTP so running misleading stories about this type of thing could be an attempt to create division between workers in the industry especially considering VFX artists are attempting to unionise themselves and this could be viewed as an attempt to alienate them from other groups of workers in Hollywood. As for the VFX in Oppenheimer, it’s been an ongoing source of controversy because Nolan’s remarks are being reported in a way which plays into a “practical vs. CGI” narrative but as far as I can tell what he actually said has never been reported. It was actually Collider which reported that in an article where the only direct quote from him was the single word ‘zero’. So I think he’s kind of being set up here to take the blame for a narrative being pushed by these publications. That said, I think he could stand to make a statement about it himself to clear up the confusion.
I hope he does make a statement because Nolan is well-known for practical effects, but he is NOT against VFX, and the reason I did not reblog any earlier stuff I saw about this article was because I hadn’t had time to research myself. But I knew that Nolan said ON THE RED CARPET AT OPPENHEIMER that he has no plans to make another giant movie until the WGA strike was settled (the SAG strike happened during the screening, and the actors walked out).
So, no, I’m not surprised that this seems a bait piece meant to 1) make Nolan see anti-credit and 2) try and draw a divide between a major director and VFX artists.
Because, you see, the animators are unionizing. And that’s fucking scary to the studios because if the animators unionize, the VFX artists can’t be far behind (as of the time I write this, the VFX industry does not appear to have taken steps to unionize). But if they plant a few stories about how a big name director doesn’t respect VFX artists, perhaps they can turn the workers against each other.
And if VFX DOESN’T unionize, the studios still have a way around paying union workers to work union hours on union shoots. And that’s to abuse the fuck out of VFX artists.

The Union Solidarity Coalition has been formed by WGA members to start helping those in other unions affected by the strike. Look this over and pass it on…
Time for a repost.
I knew having Redditors cross-train on Tumblr would produce weird fucking magic.
It gets better. This Redditor went the full Goncharov.

remember [what?] today, that you are loved
run from all you know that’s coming // run to show that love’s worth running to
come rip up the flesh of my fears
and i’m so proud of you
i know you’re strong enough to do this on your own
all that matters is that you’re here
